BKB, Its Bare Knuckle Boxing Only Legal

July 27th 2013, on Directv pay per view, an old sport will be born again. Although you wouldn’t recognize it if you saw it, Bare Knuckle Boxing is aiming at making a come back to the mainstream. Even though it has changed severely, it still has managed to peak my interest.

The gloves they use are being called “bare knuckle gloves,” which is an oxymoron. Basically, it appears to be small 5 ounce boxing glove with an opening that exposes the knuckles. The small gloves should create some damage, as well as, devastating knockouts.

The ring is a bowl like shape with lights on the outter rim. It looks like something you might see on American Gladiators. The BKB website says, “the fighters are free to step outside of the middle into the ‘safety zone’… But it will cost them.” Sounds to me that a possible point deduction could come from standing outside of the middle part of the bowl type structure.

Unlike traditional boxing, each round consist of 2 minutes. The BKB site also hints that defense will not earn you any points with the judges by saying “Strategies of evasion get them nowhere. They engage or they lose.” Also, unlike traditional boxing, the site indicates that, “Judges’s scorecards are revealed after each round, so fans always know how the fighters stand. There are no surprises.” Just like open scoring with boxing there are pros and cons to this.

Is Bare Knuckle Boxing going to be a new sport sensation that sweeps the nation? I have my doubts but it does have some entertaining aspects to it. If you are interested in checking it out you can go to www.bkb.tv and get ordering information for the first Bare Knuckle Boxings first card.

Thanks for reading and being a fan of the sweet science.
